Lymphatic Drainage Massage

light touch massage

Massage which activates the lymphatic system and relaxes.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a deeply relaxing therapeutic technique used to stimulate the lymphatic system assisting detoxification, fluid metabolism and re-energise the bodies immune response. Lymphatic drainage is unlike other deeper forms of massage in that is employs feather-light stokes to encourage Lymphatic fluid (containing toxins and other cellular waste) from connective tissues into lymph nodes for filtration. In lymph nodes Lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) actively boost immunity and ensure decongestion of the fluid.

The role of the lymphatic system is essential to every part of the body so having it perform at its peak is vital to maintaining your long-term health and will ensure deeper healing especially when combined with other forms of treatment.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
How is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Massage different from other massages?
An MLD treatment specifically works on the body’s lymphatic system, with 70% of lymphatic fluid sitting just below the surface of the skin. It is for this reason that the pressure is very gentle, slow and rhythmic to allow for the movement of lymphatic fluid around the body.
As the lymphatic system does not have its own pump, lymphatic drainage massage is an important contributor to one’s overall state of health, helping to encourage the flow of lymphatic fluid in the body, thus boosting immunity, encouraging the detoxification process and reducing swelling and fluid retention.
What are the benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
* boosts the body’s immune response
* assists the body’s detoxification process
* reduces swelling and fluid retention
* activates the body’s parasympathetic nervous system, making for a deeply relaxing experience
* assists post-injury by decreasing swelling and the body’s pain receptors
* can be helpful pre-surgery to soften fascia.
